Hikari no Go Illustrations: Sai

Posted in Manga with tags on February 6, 2010 by Risako

Anyone who knows me well knows that artbooks are my guilty pleasure. As a budding illustrator, there’s just something so joyous about breaking open a new book of beautiful, inspirational works. My artbook collection is only steadily growing, but I thought it might be interesting to start giving short reviews of them before it starts getting to be difficult to keep track of.

Title: Hikaru no Go Illustrations – Sai
Artist: Takeshi Obata
Pages: 156

The first one we’ll take a look at is Takeshi Obata’s color collection of his various Hikaru no Go illustrations. As many of you may know, Obata-sensei is the manga-ka also famous for Death Note and his currently running Bakuman. The style presented here is more youthful than that of his serious Death Note illustrations, but the detail and skill are just as apparent here.

Yes, Street Fighter 4 has been released for awhile and you probably already have all the characters unlocked.  But in case you ever find yourself reformatting your computer or playing it through your Steam account on another computer, you’ll realize that your files aren’t saved on your Windows Live ID and you’ll have nothing unlocked.  There is an easy way to unlock all your characters in SF4 and it takes 5 minutes.

Playing Killing Floor on Solo for Achievements

Posted in PC, Video Games with tags , , , on January 8, 2010 by Mailorder

One achievement I’ve found quite irritating to get is the “Dot of Doom”. You’d think it’s easy, but those zombie-ish monsters sway their heads left and right as they move towards you. And don’t tell me I’ve just got bad aim, because as of today, only 0.5% of the population that owns Killing Floor has got the achievement. After a few minutes of brainstorming, I’ve found a simple way to get it.

Yes, Another Zombie Game

Posted in PC, Video Games with tags , , , on January 6, 2010 by Mailorder

These days, I feel like you can just put “Zombie” in the title of any game and get it to sell. I feel Zombie Driver is one of those titles, so I swore I wouldn’t support it – even if it was on sale for two bucks on Steam. But then my buddy Wakkatana bought it for me for Christmas. So since I got it for free, I figured I’d might as well give it a spin. Here’s my review on it.

It’s like Diablo, Except with Mods

Posted in PC, Video Games with tags , , , , on December 27, 2009 by Mailorder

Torchlight is a hack-n-slash Diablo clone for PC. It was on sale for 5 bucks on Steam, so I got it. I was never really into the old Diablo games, but Torchlight has got me hooked. What makes it fun is that Runic Games supports modding done by the community. There’s even Steam achievements for running Torchlight with mods. You can download new maps, skins and even gameplay tweaks.

HikaGo + Twitter prompt~!

Posted in Anime, Manga with tags , , , on December 6, 2009 by Risako

I finally finished reading Hikaru no Go~! And I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed watching Hikaru grow. I never imagined that I’d be enthralled by a manga about GO, of all things. But it really is made to be quite exciting! :) And you really get so attached to the characters. But I warn you that you might cry a couple of times. ^^; I really recommend this manga if you haven’t read it yet. It has become one of my favorites~!

Here’s a video I liked~ It combines manga stills and anime sequences skillfully~!

Oh yeah, and I participated in a quick Twitter game to draw a character based on some prompts~ :3 My prompt was [Dark Mage + Halberd + androgynous + cape, mysterious, tattoos]. It’s just a doodle~ Hopefully I fulfilled the prompts somewhat…? ^^;

Playing Wolfenstein as a Sniper

Posted in PC, Video Games with tags , , on November 30, 2009 by Mailorder

I recently beat Wolfenstein on PC. My most used weapon is a fully-upgraded Karabiner 98 Kurz, which is basically a WWII-era sniper rifle. The walkthroughs I’ve read recommend NOT focusing on the Kar98 because ammunition for it is sparse. They are somewhat right. The bulk of the dudes you kill are typical Nazi soldiers and officers which drop ammo for the MP40 or MP44. Very rarely will you run into Nazi snipers for Kar98 ammo. However, you can find Kar98 ammo in random boxes to destroy throughout the game.
