Anyone who knows me well knows that artbooks are my guilty pleasure. As a budding illustrator, there’s just something so joyous about breaking open a new book of beautiful, inspirational works. My artbook collection is only steadily growing, but I thought it might be interesting to start giving short reviews of them before it starts getting to be difficult to keep track of.

The first one we’ll take a look at is Takeshi Obata’s color collection of his various Hikaru no Go illustrations. As many of you may know, Obata-sensei is the manga-ka also famous for Death Note and his currently running Bakuman. The style presented here is more youthful than that of his serious Death Note illustrations, but the detail and skill are just as apparent here.
